Product overview

Fisetin (7,3′,4′-flavon-3-ol) is a natural compound found in plants. It can be found in foods such as fruits and vegetables, namely strawberries, apples, onions, and cucumbers. As a supplement, Fisetin acts as a strong antioxidant, helping remove damaged cells and prevent the replication of faulty DNA. Fisetin is said to help extend lifespan by reducing oxidative stress. In addition, Fisetin has shown anti-cancer and cardiac regeneration features.

Learn more about Fisetin

What is Fisetin?

Fisetin (7,3′,4′-flavon-3-ol) is a plant flavonol from the flavonoid group of polyphenols.

It can be found in many plants, where it serves as a yellow/ochre colouring agent. It is also found in many fruits and vegetables, such as strawberries, apples, persimmons, onions, and cucumbers.

Its chemical formula was first described by Austrian chemist Josef Herzig in 1891.

How does Fisetin work?

Fisetin is a strong anti-oxidant that has also been proven to have potent senolytic effects. It has been shown to help remove senescent or damaged cells and to prevent the replication of damaged DNA. In doing so, it promotes human health and lifespan and has a role in aging and age-related diseases. Research has shown that Fisetin extends lifespan by reducing oxidative stress and increasing glutathione levels. It supports healthy aging and fights chronic disease.

Research has shown that fisetin reduces senescence markers. It has twice the senolytic potency as quercetin.

Fisetin, like other polyphenols such as Resveratrol, is a sirtuin-activating compound and has been shown in laboratory studies to extend the life of yeast, worms, flies, and mice.

Fisetin has shown anti-cancer activity in studies on cells and model animals conducted in laboratories, and it appears to block the PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway, along with other mechanisms to induce apoptosis activation, and prevent apoptosis resistance.

Studies also have shown that Fisetin induces cardiac regeneration by activating genes involved in cell proliferation. It potentially protects from ischemic damage after a heart attack and may help prevent strokes.

Finally, Fisetin (like quercetin) seems to improve blood clotting time and thrombin time.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Fisetin?

Fisetin is a natural flavonoid found in various fruits and vegetables, notably strawberries, apples, persimmons, onions, and cucumbers. It is recognized for its potent antioxidant properties and has been the subject of research for its potential health benefits, including anti-inflammatory and senolytic (elimination of senescent cells) effects.

What does Fisetin do?

Fisetin has been studied for several potential health benefits:

  • Antioxidant Activity: It helps neutralize free radicals, reducing oxidative stress and cellular damage.
  • Senolytic Properties: Fisetin may promote the removal of senescent cells, which are associated with aging and age-related diseases.
  • Anti-Inflammatory Effects: It has been shown to modulate inflammatory pathways, potentially reducing chronic inflammation.
  • Cognitive Support: Some studies suggest Fisetin may support brain health and cognitive function.
What is the best Fisetin supplement?

When choosing a Fisetin supplement, consider the following factors:

  • Purity and Quality: Look for supplements that provide pure Fisetin without unnecessary additives.
  • Dosage: Ensure the supplement offers a dosage that aligns with current research and your health goals.
  • Third-Party Testing: Opt for products that have been tested by independent laboratories for purity and potency.
  • Reputable Brand: Choose supplements from reputable manufacturers that follow good manufacturing practices.
How much Fisetin should I take?

The recommended daily dose of Fisetin is up to 1.5 grams. Do not exceed this dosage.

For accurate measurement, Hansen Supplements provides a free measuring spoon with each product. The spoon holds 0.3 grams of Fisetin and is dishwasher safe. Since Fisetin is known to have coloring properties, it is recommended to use a dedicated spoon. If greater precision is needed, we recommend using a precision scale, available here.

Fisetin is fat-soluble, meaning it should be taken with oil or fat to enhance absorption. Store the product in a cool, dark place, away from children.

How should I take Fisetin?

Fisetin is fat-soluble, so taking it with a meal containing healthy fats can enhance absorption. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the supplement label, and consider consulting with a healthcare provider for personalized advice.

Is Fisetin safe?

Fisetin is generally considered safe when consumed through dietary sources. Short-term studies have reported minimal side effects, even at higher supplemental doses. However, the long-term safety of high-dose Fisetin supplementation is not well understood, and more research is needed.
